3. Activities

To achieve its aims, the Society shall:

a)     Facilitate excellence in research and the development and use of appropriate technologies in the Digital Earth domain.

b)     Initiate research in the fields of the Digital Earth sciences by establishing Technical Commissions and Working Groups, identifying research areas to be investigated, and promoting these to a broad audience through all possible means.

c)     Convene International Symposia, Summits, and other meetings, with lectures, communications and discussions, and, as appropriate, tutorials, exhibitions, technical visits and social events. 

d)     Ensure a wide international circulation of research results and records of discussions about all subjects of ISDE through the publication of the International Journal of Digital Earth, Newsletters, proceedings of ISDE Symposia, ISDE Summits and other communications relevant to the interests of the Society and the community at large.

e)     Stimulate the formation of national and multi-national Societies of Digital Earth and promote exchanges between such Societies.

f)      Encourage interaction of the ISDE members with all related initiatives.

g)     Encourage recognition and administer awards to honor the achievements of individuals or groups.

h)     Represent the Digital Earth community in relevant international forums trying always to promote the work of the Society，its objectives and principles and calling for further international cooperation.

i)       Promote and facilitate education, training and technology transfer of all fields related to Digital Earth sciences.

j)       Promote other appropriate actions to enhance the Society's mission.
