On June 5th, the 5th ISDE Academic Salon was successfully held in Beijing, China. This salon, with the theme of "Human-Environmental Interaction via GeoAl in the era of Open Science", was organized by the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) and the China University of Mining and Technology.
This salon featured an intriguing presentation by Dr. Siqin (Sisi) Wang, Associate Professor at the Spatial Sciences Institute, University of Southern California, USA. Through presenting multiple statistical cases, she demonstrated how to utilize crowdsourcing human observation data and GeoAI techniques to quantify human behaviors. She also introduced the tri-environmental conceptual framework developed by her team, and explained how it, along with Earth Observation data, quantifies complex confounders involved in the human-environmental interaction. By sharing some of her team's latest research results, such as open-access datasets and reproducible workflows enabled by the KNIME Analytics Platform and other channels, she encouraged students to explore new topics on human-environment interaction based on their own research interests, and advocated for everyone to practice Open Science. Her presentation offered fresh perspectives for the research of both faculty and students in attendance. The salon was moderated by Prof. Wei Chen from China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing).
