Digital Earth Youth Innovation Lecture

The 2nd Lecture on the Digital Earth Youth Innovation

The International Society for Digital Earth - Lecture on the Digital Earth Youth Innovation will be organized quarterly each year, aiming to invite the world-leading scientists and rising young scientists to share their cutting-edge research outcomes and enhance the connection and research collaboration among YSIN members and beyond.

 

The 2nd Lecture on the Digital Earth Youth Innovation ended successfully on February 28, 2024. The lecture audience was introduced to the theme of "Smartification in the Digital and Virtual Space" by two speakers. They delved into significant concepts such as the digital transformation, smartification process and cyber-physical space.

Stefano Nativi

Council of National Research, Italy

Stefano Nativi works for the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), where he was head of a research unit on geospatial information science, for over 10 years. He is currently seconded to the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union, in Brussels (Belgium), as scientific attaché for digital and cybersecurity dossiers. He was "Big Data Lead Scientist" at the European Commission's Directorate-General Joint Research Centre (JRC) for 5 years. He is Vice-Chair of the International Advisory Board of International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) and a member of International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE). He created and chaired the Earth and Space Sciences Informatics Division of the European Geosciences Union (EGU), for 5 years. He is editor-in-chief of the journal Big Earth Data and co-editor of the "AI section" of the journal Remote Sensing. He has received the Ian McHarg Medal of the EGU, the Geospatial Innovation Award of the Geospatial World Forum (GWF) and the Meritorious Service Medal of the IEEE Committee on Earth Observations (ICEO). He has taught at the universities of Padua and Florence, Italy, and Friedrich Schiller in Jena, Germany. He holds a master's degree in Telecommunications Engineering and a PhD in "Methods and Systems for Environmental Monitoring".

Xintao Liu

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, China

Xintao Liu, PhD, Associate Professor at the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, China. His research interest focuses on GIScience, Human Mobility, and Complex Network, and his research goal is to use state-of-art technologies to advance smart city for a better urban life. He has received research fund from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Hong Kong Research Grants Council, Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Fund, and the Hong Kong Public Policy Research Funding Schemes. He proactively serves the professional communities, including the Chairman of the Commission on Geographic Modeling Analysis of International Cartographic Association (ICA), Managing Editor of the journal of Urban Informatics, Secretary of the International Society for Urban Informatics, etc.

Jian Lin

Chinese University of Hong Kong, China

Jian Lin is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and an Adjunct Research Fellow at the University of California Merced. Dr Lin obtained his PhD degree in Environmental Science from the State University of New York. His research focuses on urban forest modeling and ecosystem service quantification, and nature-based solutions for sustainable cities. In the past five years, he has published 18 papers in top SCI/SSCI journals including Nature Energy, and led or participated in the projects funded by the California Air Resources Board, the California Strategic Growth Council, and the United States Department of Agriculture. In addition, he is the Secretary of the ISDE Young Scientist Innovation Network and the Assistant Editor of the international journal Computational Urban Science.
