Summit
The summit was organized by the Society for Geoinformatics (GfGI) and the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) together with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), the GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam (GFZ), and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission. This summit focused on the theme of Geoinformatics: Tools for Global Change Research with seven main topics in terms of Global Change, Desertification, Urbanization, Observation and Modelling, Simulation and Modelling, Visualization and Spatial Data Infrastructure. With the development of digital earth theory and technology, digital earth, as a burgeoning intercross discipline combined geosciences, space science and information science and technology, has developed in abroad research fields, especially global change. Scientists in the research field of digital earth gathered in Potsdam to discuss the role of digital earth science and technology, especially geoinformatics in global change issues, which has significant meanings. During the summit, scientists and scholars reported their research on the role of digital earth science and technology in global change research. Content covers a wide range of topics, for example geoinformatics, the influence of observation and modeling technology in desertification, the support of simulation and modeling using geo-browser to land degradation policy, and the global change in 20th and 21st century.
