ISDE International Lectures, organized by the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) are a series of online events which feature invited lectures by well-known international experts in the field of Digital Earth. The event will invite speakers to give lectures every two months. The purpose of the events is to bring international scholars in the relevant research fields of Digital Earth together to exchange academic perspectives, share research results, and disseminate the most cutting-edge and authoritative concept of Digital Earth.

The 4th ISDE International Lectures, with the theme of "Local Earth Observation Data Cubes for the Digital Earth Vision", will invite three speakers to shed light on case studies of the Earth observation data cube and its implementation in their local areas under the vision of Digital Earth.

Gregory Giuliani

University of Geneva, Switzerland

Gregory Giuliani is the Head of the Digital Earth Unit and Swiss Data Cube Project Leader at GRID-Geneva of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Geneva’s Institute for Environmental Sciences. Gregory’s research focuses on Land Change Science and how Earth observations can be used to monitor and assess environmental changes and support sustainable development. Interdisciplinary is a key element for generating new ideas and innovations in his research.

Martin Sudmanns

Paris Lodron University Salzburg, Austria

Martin Sudmanns is postdoctoral researcher at the Paris Lodron University Salzburg, Department of Geoinformatics, Austria, and co-head of the research area EO Analytics. His research focuses on Geoinformatics, computer-based representation of natural phenomena in spatial data models, spatio-temporal Earth observation analysis in the context of data cubes and big EO data.

Dirk Tiede

Paris Lodron University Salzburg, Austria

Dirk Tiede, Associate Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS, completed his academic qualifications with a PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) in Geoinformatics in 2010 and his habilitation with the venia docendi in Geoinformatics in 2019 at the Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg, Austria. He was involved in a range of national and European R&D projects in the field of environmental and humanitarian applications, specialized in image data analysis and object-based methodologies. He received in 2014 the Christian-Doppler-Award of the Federal State of Salzburg for publications in fundamental and applied Geoinformatics. Since 2015, he set a focus on big EO data management/analysis and process automation for big EO data/data integration. He is leading successful projects in the field and was awarded with the Copernicus Masters Award – Big Data Challenge (2015) and the Copernicus Masters Space Awards 2020 - Copernicus Prize Austria for “Semantic Enrichment of EO Images on Demand”. Together with his team he recently conceptualized & developed the worldwide first semantic EO data cube. He is a co-founder and partner of the company Spatial Services https://www.spatial-services.com, founded in 2015.
