ISDE President Featured as Speaker at Polytechnic University of Milan Webinar on Digital Earth and the Metaverse

On March 26, ISDE President Dr. Alessandro Annoni delivered a speech titled "Digital Earth and the Metaverse" on the webinar channel of the Polytechnic University of Milan.

Starting from the perspective of the contribution of the metaverse to sustainable development, and in particular to the implementation of the vision of Digital Earth, he gave an overview of the evolution of Digital Earth, the interrelated connections among science, technology and society, and the chronicle of Digital Transformation.

He emphasized the need to foster a diverse ecosystem of metaverse platforms rather than relying on a situation where only one metaverse exists. The growing integration of the metaverse into everyday life was highlighted, with a prediction that the education, remote work, healthcare, retail and many others will see a lot of new use cases.

On the topic of the current debate surrounding the so-called "AI Winters", Dr. Annoni expressed his view that, although there are still discussions about whether the causality trap around 2020s is an AI Winter or not, AI and its more extensive applications will continue to mature and evolve.
