Latest Updates & Opportunities from International Science Council (ISC)- April 2021

1. Provide feedback on the Scientific and Technological Community Major Group position paper for the 2021 HLPF on the SDGs

Together with the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), the ISC leads the United Nations Major Group for Science and Technological Community (STC MG) for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a mandate to promote science and to strengthen the scientific basis of decision-making and governance of sustainable development. For the upcoming High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on the SDGs in July 2021, the STC MG has drafted a position paper to bring together the latest scientific evidence and thinking from the science and technology community in order to set out ways to advance progress on the SDGs throughout the Decade of Action while living with and through the COVID-19 pandemic. We very much welcome your input on the draft position paper via https://council.science/hlpf/2021-2/hlpf-2021-science-technology-input/ by 6 May 2021.

2. Submit your stories for the ISC-BBC StoryWorks science series

The series will aim to tell diverse stories from across a range of disciplines and research approaches that demonstrate the transformative power of scientific innovation and progress. Each story should showcase evidence-based actions towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or demonstrate how lessons learned from the pandemic can be applied to other critical global challenges. Stories will also showcase the ways in which communities engage with science and innovation to deliver transformation, from practical solutions to shaping our understanding of the problem. This transformation at the heart of our content can be at the individual or institutional level, personal or political. These stories also present a chance to explore the issues that frustrate science’s ability to be transformative. Express your interest in participating in the series and submit your story(ies) via https://council.science/current/news/bbc-science-stories/  by 30 April 2021.
