Luis serves as a Council Member of the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE), where he co-chairs Working Group 4 - Citizen Science. He is an Adjunct Industry Fellow of the Cities Research Institute, Griffith University, working with Professor Cheryl Desha in the 'Digital Earth and Resilient Infrastructure' research theme. He has co-led the development of remote immersive collaboration prototype spaces, which was subsequently integrated within the University's dedicated Disaster and Resilience Management Facility (N79, Nathan Campus, Brisbane, Queensland). Working to translate research into practice, Luis draws on more than a decade of experiences as an Emergency Services professional, applying research innovations to program and project management, strategic planning, and people management. He is also an emergency responder with hands-on experiences in state disaster rescue operations, and strategic leadership for preparedness and response in fast-paced, high-pressure environments. Luis is committed to cultivating academic partnerships with the public and private sector, towards long-lasting high-trust relationships amidst climate change and other disruptions.
