Amos Tiereyangn Kabo-Bah

Prof. Amos Kabo-Bah is a distinguished Earth observation and climate systems expert serving as Co-Chair of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Programme Board, an intergovernmental organization comprising 100+ national governments and 150+ participating organizations. With a PhD in Hydrology and Water Resources from Hohai University, China, and MSc in Environmental Hydrology from University of Twente, Netherlands, he leads critical Earth intelligence initiatives for supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As Co-Chair of GEO's Land Degradation Neutrality Flagship, he coordinates activities across 50+ countries, managing €6 million in funding to support SDG 15.3.1 implementation through integrated monitoring frameworks. His leadership spans continental-scale operations covering 54 African countries, with particular expertise in developing early warning systems for climate-related hazards including drought, floods, and land degradation.

He has secured over €13 million in international funding, establishing major research infrastructure under his leadership for the establishment of the Earth Observation Research and Innovation Centre, resulting in strategic infrastructure such as Ghana's first COSMIC-2 ground station for numerical weather forecasting, the Ghana Flux Tower for climate monitoring, and the Advanced Fire Information System for West Africa. His research portfolio includes 84+ peer-reviewed publications focusing on climate systems and Earth observation applications.

He currently serves as a Strategic Adviser to the China-Africa Satellite Application Center of the Land Satellite Application Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources of China, and as Ghana's Government Adviser on Earth observation systems under the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology. He recently received a Presidential appointment to serve as a Board member of the Ghana National Domain Registry under the Ministry of Communications, Digitization, and Innovation.

In 2025, he was appointed as Interim Director of the Big Data Centre for SDGs by the Digital Belt and Road Initiative (DBAR) Secretariat of CBAS, hosted at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, further cementing his leadership in international big data initiatives for sustainable development. He brings extensive digital earth expertise through satellite data integration, geospatial analysis, and climate modeling to advance ISDE's mission of fostering digital earth science innovation globally.
